Subject 1. AHDS Performing Arts aims and communication methods
2. Performing Arts stakeholders and communication methods
Description Performing Arts resources have many qualities which may require different
technological and theoretical approaches than data, text or image-based materials. In addition to text, databases, images and hypertext, it is likely that digital PA collections will encompass time-based media, virtual reality, or innovative representation methods. It is important to acknowledge that issues are wide ranging, from questioning the nature of digital representation itself, to the heightened importance of process (rather than simply product) in the Performing Arts and the concept of ‘performance’ in digital collections. As many Performing Arts are created and/or performed contemporarily, we must recognise the diversity of collection creators and users, and the consequent differences in collections and their purposes – a current practitioner of Performing Arts will have different needs and produce a different collection from a historian. This document complements the AHDS Communications Policy by considering more specifically outreach within the Performing Arts subject
centre.
